BIO 222 - Genetics (4 Credits) This course provides an overview of the principles, concepts and theories in the field of genetics. Emphasis is placed on prokaryotic and eukaryotic gene structure, mechanisms of inheritance, gene expression, gene regulation, genomics, epigenetics, the genetics of cancer, population genetics and evolutionary genetics. Students will solve genetics problems, read primary literature and discuss medical, social and ethical issues related to the field of genetics. Lecture Hours: 39. Laboratory Hours: 26. Prerequisite(s): BIO 105 with a grade of “C” or better. Laboratory Fee: $30. Usually offered in the fall.
