OFT 132 - Basic Diagnostic Coding (3 Credits) This course provides a basic orientation to the coding principles and practices of the International Classification of Diseases, 9th Revision, Clinical Modification (ICD-9-CM). It also provides an introduction to ICD-10-CM and other diagnosis classification systems. This course covers the historical development of the ICD classification system, coding of diagnosis records from a variety of medical specialties and the use of official coding guidelines. Lecture Hours: 39. Prerequisite(s): BIO 115 and OFT 140 with grades of “C” or better and permission of the department head. Usually offered in the fall and spring.
