COM 110 - Mass Communication (3 Credits) This course examines the effect and impact of mass media on contemporary life and society. This course covers the historical evolution of media as well as contemporary developments and issues. Students develop the skills required to critically analyze a variety of media types and become more knowledgeable media consumers. Areas examined include newspapers and journalism, magazines, radio and television broadcasting, motion pictures, music recording, the internet and social media, cable and satellite communication, advertising and public relations, and media law and ethics. Lecture Hours: 39. Prerequisite(s): ENG 101 with a grade of “C” or better. Usually offered in the spring.
