Fire Science Technology, A.A.S.

This degree program is offered in conjunction with the Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute (MFRI). Combined with other general education and emergency medical services course completion, this program will enhance students’ abilities to be promoted in the emergency services field or to gain employment in the fire service.

Students will receive 20 articulated credits for successful completion of the MFRI courses noted below.

  • HM 106 - Hazardous Materials/WMD Operations (1 Credit)

  • MGMT 201 - Fire Officer I (4 Credits)
  • MGMT 306 - Fire Inspector (2 Credits)
  • RES 214 - Technical Rescue: Common Passenger Vehicle Rescue (1 Credit)

Learning Outcomes


Graduates of this program should be able to:

  1. Differentiate the roles and responsibilities of the emergency responder;
  2. Explain the career levels and promotional pathways available in the Fire Service;
  3. Understand leadership concepts applied in the Fire Service;
  4. Apply professional safety standards to the work environment;
  5. Demonstrate effective written and oral communication skills; and
  6. Recognize ethical issues in a variety of settings and consider the consequences of alternative actions.
