Welding, A.A.S.


Program Code: TRD.AAS.WLD

This program provides students with the knowledge and skills needed for entry-level welding positions and helps prepare students for American Welding Society (AWS) certification. Students acquire skills in shielded metal arc welding, gas tungsten arc welding, gas metal arc welding and oxyfuel cutting, with an emphasis on standard welding processes and industrial safety. Addresses the proper use of tools and lifting/rigging as well as exposure to various welding applications including welding materials during the assembly of industrial machine products. The general education courses included add skills needed to function as well-rounded candidates for the work environment.

Learning Outcomes


Graduates of this program should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate proficiency in the entry level skill sets of the welding profession;
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in the four main processes of welding (SMAW, GTAW, GMAW and FCAW);
  3. Identify and select appropriate consumables based on the specific welding process used; and
  4. Interpret basic blueprints and specifications in the welding and pipefitting field.
