Criminal Justice, A.A.S.


Program Code: CMJ.AAS.CJA

This program is for students who want an entry-level position in corrections and/or law enforcement or who want to transfer to the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, Wilmington University, the University of Baltimore, Troy University, the University of Maryland Global Campus or another four-year college or university and work toward a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice. To ensure maximum transferability, students should familiarize themselves with the program requirements of the institution to which they plan to transfer.

Learning Outcomes


Graduates of this program should be able to:

  1. Use an ethical framework and an understanding of legal constraints to make decisions as a criminal justice professional;
  2. Develop specialized technical knowledge and skills relevant to sub-specialties in the field of criminal justice to ensure public safety;
  3. Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills required of law enforcement and correctional professionals;
  4. Apply critical-thinking skills and logic to analyze and solve a variety of complex problems in the criminal justice environment;
  5. Manage and administer the proper care, supervision and rehabilitation of diverse offender populations within a variety of correctional and law enforcement settings including probation and parole; and
  6. Differentiate the institutions, law and theories that comprise the U.S. criminal justice system.
