NUR 115 - Introduction to Nursing Pharmacology (1.5 Credits)


This course focuses on the accurate calculation of drug dosages for medication administration via various routes, with an overview of the basics of nursing pharmacology. Emphasis is placed on an introduction to the principles of pharmacology, safe administration of medications, commonly-administered drugs and their classifications, and the effects of pharmacological agents on individuals throughout the life span. Safe drug calculations of various types of medications and related nursing interventions, client education, monitoring and evaluating patient responses, including clinical judgment and inquiry, are identified and discussed. Lecture Hours: 19.5 Prerequisite(s): Permission of the department head. Course Fee: $50. Usually offered in the fall and spring.
